Presenting, the Vegetables. Finally.

It's official we have a vegetable garden! Mitch built me a pretty garden box. I filled it up with a ton of dirt and Nate dug the holes for the plants. Nate's friend came over and all the kids played in the sprinkler while I worked. We stopped for some snacks at our new picnic table Nana found us. We even ate our dinner al fresco. It was a beautiful day. We had a wonderful time.
We planted cucumbers, bell peppers, roma, cherry, and better boy tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, basil, garden beans, kale, broccoli and lettuce.
I think I will convince Mitch to build me another one tomorrow because I ran out of room. We still have pumpkin (fingers crossed), cantelope, jalapeƱo, spinach, and probably some more tomatoes. Nate and I are super excited. I hope they survive. The plants were beautiful two weeks ago, but we weren't able to plant them when should have. The night frost lasted three weeks later than usual. So hopefully out pitiful plants will come back and be very bountiful!

Nate Day.

Mitch and I took Nate to his first movie in the theater today! We dropped of Liam and had a Nate Day. He was super excited. We took him to see The Avengers movie. Yes, he's a little young, we failed at proper parenting today. He loved it. He had to sit in a booster because he's short and he couldn't keep the seat from closing up on him. But as soon as the opening credits came on, Nate leaned over and gave Mitch the biggest hug. He thought it was awesome. He dazed out a bit when the conversation parts got lengthy but sat straight up and cheered on Ironman during all the fighting. He even pounded his hand in his fist when the bad guy came on screen. He told me he loved me at least twice during the movie. Nate stayed still and watched the entire movie, it was over two hours long. He seriously loves superheros. He doesn't know how to talk discreetly at all, but it was too cute when he made his rather loud comments.
"Whoa, that's Ironman!"
"Oh, that's not good."
"He's mean and green."
"Hawkeye has a bow and arrow!"
"Ultron is the bad guy, he's bad."
We got him some popcorn and a drink and he was in heaven. We cannot wait to take him to another movie. It was nice to have a Nate Day.

Haircut.

I finally gave in and took Nate to get a haircut. I took him to Great Clips, huge leap of faith on a $5.99 haircut special. One previous salon charged me $20 for Nate and the most recent trip to a barber was an absolute mess. So I figured, why not..the last debacle grew back! Nate acted wonderfully. He sat still and turned his head like she asked. I was nervous the whole time and pretty much a backseat driver through most of the haircut. The woman did a good job and Nate was really proud of himself. It's still on the longer side. I just couldn't let them give him a crew cut, his hair is too pretty. When Nate hopped up, he looked in the mirror and said, "Dad is going to be SO happy!" We will probably go back. Maybe Liam will get his haircut..I'm not sure I'm ready for all that yet. I don't like crying in front of strangers. We will probably wait for Rhonda on that one. Now getting a decent picture of his new haircut is a different story!
Also, we went to Chic-Fil-A after the haircut for ice cream. Liam finally managed to climb all the way up and through the playground and down the slide all by himself! He was quite proud of himself.

Happy Earth Day!

The boys and I went to a butterfly exhibit. One of our friends from the mommy group joined us. It was very pretty and the kids had a blast. Nate actually caught a few on his butterfly "landing pad." Liam almost said "butterfly!" Nate freaked out a little when a butterfly would land on him and start crawling towards his face. It was hilarious. We also saw a bunch of very impressive bonsai trees. I'm actually not sure if they were bonsai trees, they were way too awesome. We also got a dogwood tree sapling! I'm so excited! So here are some pictures of our beautiful day!

Kings Island.

Yay! Kings Island finally opened for the season! Nate was very excited and Liam was underwhelmed the whole time until he got to ride the train and carousel. Nate took Liam to meet Snoopy and poor Liam jumped out of his skin when he saw that Snoopy moved. But he got over it and had a good time hitting Snoopy on the nose. Nate even walked the whole time. We stayed pretty late and got to watch the fireworks. And then went to get a frosty. It's only a ten minute drive home, but Liam was passed out. I changed his diaper and put him in pjs without him waking up. A day full of fun.

Dentist.

Nate went to the dentist for the first time this morning. Yes, I'm a bad mom for waiting this long. Sue me. Anyway, thankfully we found a wonderful pediatric dentist. The office was wonderful, happy and all about kids. They showed Nate all the tools and let him use the sucker to suck up water out of his hand and all that. He didn't fuss at all and even let the lady floss. It was perfect. He was super excited and got to pick out a prize. He went with a classic, wind up chattering teeth. Mitch and I were so proud. And Nate has awesome teeth, twenty of them. They counted, twice. ;)
Liam just hung out and watched with a friend he met in the waiting room.

Yay, zoo day!

The weather was beautiful today--cooler, partly cloudy, and little sprinkles every now and then. Well, beautiful weather for the zoo. Something about rain seems to make the animals more active and the overcast means I didn't have to lather the kids up with sunblock. Nate was reading a book about the zoo this morning and asked if we could go and since we have a season pass (thanks mom), we headed to the zoo as soon as Liam woke up from his nap. The tulips were all in bloom and gorgeous. Nate and his friend Rylee walked the whole time without getting too hot. There was hardly anyone there so we took our time with the animals and talked to their keepers. They put giraffes on birth control! Weird. It was a very nice shorter two hour trip, but it's nice to NOT have to spend the entire day there to get your money's worth. I think we'll go back tomorrow. ;)
Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather.
